Insurance Industry Transformation is Unstoppable
The Life and Health insurance industry is seen, both internally and externally within industry insurers and reinsurers, as the next big market for technology disruption. We prefer to use the word transformation instead of disruption as we see a convergence between agile technology players and the so-called legacy incumbents.”More”
In our recent whitepaper, we have identified several key findings and unstoppable trends that are going to drive industry innovation:
- So far, USA InsurTech revolution has been transformative, not disruptive
- Emerging Asia Markets are a hotbed for InsurTech Innovation
- The democratization and portability of technology
- Process Automation, AI and Accelerated Underwriting (AUW)
- Evolving Distribution
- Insurance “on demand”, “Pay as you go” and Insurance as a service
- Ecosystem development and partnerships are key
- Legal, Regulatory and compliance risks remain as threats to InsurTech
- Big Tech giants will enter the US insurance market in a big way
Recent surveys and a myriad of publications suggest that insurers are most worried about BigTech companies disrupting the industry (aka the Uberization of the insurance business). In principle, these firms have the financial strength, technological expertise and customer-centric focus to offer a serious competitive challenge to incumbent insurers. We believe that the key element missing from many of BigTech companies, and most InsurTech start-ups for that matter, is the insurance domain expertise required for functions that support underwriting, pricing, capital management, legal and regulatory, customer experience optimization and claims.
